Rolex Day-Date

When the Day-Date arrived in 1956, it was the first wristwatch to spell out the full day of the week, and Rolex has never offered it in anything but precious metal. Nicknamed the President for the bracelet created alongside it, it has been worn by heads of state, executives, and icons in every field for nearly seventy years. Our Day-Date inventory spans 36mm and 40mm cases in yellow gold, white gold, Everose, and platinum, with dial options running from classic champagne to onyx, diamond pave, and rare stone dials. Whether you want the traditional yellow gold President or something far less expected, every example here is authenticated in-house and ships fully insured.

First introduced in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date was the first watch to display the day of the week spelled out in full, a horological breakthrough that cemented its status as the ultimate symbol of achievement. Worn exclusively in precious metals (18ct yellow, white, or Everose gold, or 950 platinum) on the iconic President bracelet, the Day-Date has graced the wrists of world leaders, heads of state, and cultural icons for nearly seven decades. Known universally as the Rolex Presidential, it is available with an extraordinary range of dial materials including gem-set, meteorite, exotic stone, and the dramatic ombre dials, smoked gradient dials in green, blue, and slate that have become among the most requested modern configurations. Its hallmark fluted bezel in solid 18k gold (and, since 2022, even in notoriously hard-to-machine platinum on the ice blue 228236 and 128236) remains the defining frame of the President look; browse every grooved-bezel Rolex in our Rolex Fluted Bezel collection. Rolex Day-Date FAQ

How much does a Rolex Day-Date cost?

Vintage 1803s typically run $9,000–$14,000, the most accessible entry to the Presidential. Five-digit 18038/18238 models trade $13,000–$18,000, six-digit 118238-era watches $18,000–$26,000, and current Day-Date 40 models range $38,000–$65,000+, with platinum, ice blue, and gem-set dials well beyond.

What's the difference between Day-Date 36, Day-Date II, and Day-Date 40?

The 36mm is the original 1956 size, produced continuously ever since. The Day-Date II (2008–2015) enlarged it to 41mm with a broader bezel. The Day-Date 40 (2015–present) refined the proportions at 40mm with the calibre 3255, the most technically advanced Day-Date yet.

Is the Rolex Presidential a good investment?

Solid gold and platinum Day-Dates carry intrinsic metal value plus Rolex demand, and sought-after dials like ombre, ice blue platinum, factory gem-set, and vintage Stella lacquer have strongly outperformed. Vintage 1803s remain one of the best value-to-heritage buys in watches.
