The Rolex "James Cameron" is the collector nickname for the Deepsea Sea-Dweller with the D-Blue dial, a striking gradient that fades from bright blue at the top to jet black at the bottom, mimicking the descent from surface light into the deep. Introduced in 2014 on reference 116660, carried through the 126660 (2018–2022), and continued on the current 44mm reference 136660, the dial honors filmmaker James Cameron's 2012 solo dive to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the Deepsea Challenger submersible.
Why the James Cameron matters
The Deepsea is the most capable dive watch Rolex makes, waterproof to 3,900 meters (12,800 feet) with the Ringlock case system built to survive crushing depth. The D-Blue dial version is the only Rolex that commemorates a specific expedition, and the gradient dial makes it the most distinctive Deepsea in the lineup. The current 136660 carries the caliber 3235 with a 70-hour power reserve.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Rolex James Cameron?
The James Cameron is the Deepsea Sea-Dweller with the D-Blue gradient dial: references 116660 (2014–2018), 126660 (2018–2022), and the current 136660, all rated to 3,900 meters.
Why is it called the James Cameron?
Rolex released the D-Blue dial in 2014 to commemorate James Cameron's record solo dive to the Mariana Trench's Challenger Deep, the deepest point on Earth, aboard the Deepsea Challenger in 2012.
What's the difference between the three James Cameron references?
The 116660 is the original D-Blue. The 126660 (2018) updated to the caliber 3235 and a redesigned bracelet and lugs. The 136660 (2022) refined the case proportions further and lightened the wear. All share the 44mm size and 3,900m rating.
What's the difference between the James Cameron and a regular Deepsea?
The dial: the standard Deepsea wears black; the James Cameron wears the blue-to-black D-Blue gradient. The case, movement, and depth rating are identical within each reference generation.
How big is the James Cameron?
44mm across and roughly 17.7mm thick. The Deepsea is Rolex's largest and most substantial dive watch, built around the Ringlock system that withstands full-depth pressure.
Do your James Camerons come with box and papers?
Many do, and each listing specifies what's included. Every watch is authenticated by our in-house team regardless of accessories.
